Today is my last day with my current company. Before moving on to something new, I thought it would be good to reflect on the past 5 1/2 years.
I joined this company in September 2006 as a Coordinator. I was fresh out of graduate school and had just returned from traveling through Europe for a month. I was 26, single, out of money, had no retirement savings, and living with my parents. I was incredibly eager to start my new profession and felt as if I had found the perfect position.
My boss was an incredible mentor and we developed a mother - daughter type relationship. As I became more comfortable in my position and successful the projects assigned to me I was given the opportunity to take on new projects based on my interests. Two years into the position my boss decided to leave and I was promoted to a Manager. I got a raise, took on more responsibly and continued to do everything I was doing before.
For one year we had three people who worked in the Provost's Office part time to replace my boss. I spent that year guiding them through the work and developed confidence as I eased into the Manager position.
The following year my current boss started and I found myself with another amazing mentor. This time I was treated like an equal and I gained even more confidence in my abilities. I was also given advice when I needed it and allowed to take on more projects that were in line with my interests.
As a result of all this support I found new interests that I could not have guessed I would enjoy. This experience lead me to the place I am now ready to start a new job that is very different from what I have been doing.
While there are always things to complain about, as I leave this job I am extremely grateful for two amazing direct bosses, two great heads of my department and the amazing people I got to work with and learn from.
I am now 31, married, I have an emergency fund, and large joint savings account. I own an apartment with my parents and I have almost $60,000 in retirement savings. I am once again moving into a new profession. But this time I know there are no perfect jobs. I also know that I have found a great position that will challenge me and help me build a career trajectory.

So nice that you can look back and write so many nice things about your job. There are so many people around who hate their job and it's depressing to read their posts. Yours was uplifting :-)
Thanks so much everyone!
