A Review of My Yearly Goals
I've decided to take a moment and review where I am in accomplishing my yearly goals. My updates are in italics.
Retirement:-My company automatically puts 10 percent of my salary into my 403b whether or not I invest any of my own money. I want to continue funding my SRA at $150 a month for a total of $1800. I've recently changed my contribution from $150 a month to 5% of each paycheck which should increase the contribution
I have a Roth IRA and I will continue funding this at $150 a month for a total of $1800
Sadly I'm not doing so well. In an attempt to fund my travel and emergency fund I stopped contributing for two months and now I only contribute $100 a month. Something is better than nothing, right?
Emergency Savings Fund: My goal is to have $5000 by January 2009.
Because of my raise I'm on course to have this done before January!
Travel Fund - This is for my trips to Portland and Hong Kong this summer. I would like to fund it to $1500 before July. DONE! Of course now I'm almost at empty again.
Gift Fund - Specifically for holiday gift shopping and my goal is to fund it to $500 before December. It has moved up and down a lot as I've bought gifts (most recently a wii for my bf's birthday). While it never made its goal (and won't) I'm happy with how it is doing.
Boston Terrier Fund: There is not rush to complete this goal of having $1000 to help me purchase a boston terrier since I probably won't be ready for one for a few years. I'll be happy if I have $200 in here by January 2009.
Credit Card:- Paid Off
Mortgage and School Loans: I'm going to continue to pay these every month as usual. I have very low interest rates for both of these so I'm in no rush to pay them off. Extra money I may have right now will serve me better in a retirement fund or in my emergency savings account. This is exactly why I'm doing, though I'm hoping that next year I can start focusing on paying down my student loan debt.
Charity: Finally I would like to donate $25 a month to charity. I know it's not much, but I also volunteer my time and at this point it is all I can afford. I'm proud to say that I have stuck to this goal.

i'm liking that first goal!!! once you have the plan down in writing, you're half way there :) Good work, and you can do it for sure.
I like that you contribute what you can to charity. I also try to budget about 50 bucks for charity a month. 28 goes to Save the Children for the child I sponsor and the rest I spend on www.GlobalGiving.com. You should check it out. Minimum donation is 10 bucks, but they have all sorts of awsome projects you can donate to that support all sorts of causes.
Definitely a great goal... Right now I have a "Gifts for Others" budget that I would like to segment into charity and friend gift segments.
Really admirable!
Best of luck with the Terrier fund as well. I'm also saving for a dog, and nice to see that I calculated the exact same amount ($1000) to raise before I bought one.
nice goals! i hear you on the travel fund. i know that's what it's there for, but everytime it passes a grand i drain it. better than charging a vacation, i know, but spending my savings is harder than saving itself!
